After graduating from William & Mary, Bill worked for 30 years with Sears Roebuck and Co., mostly in marketing and merchandising assignments. While rising to the level of Vice President, Bill and his wife and 2 children moved from Virginia to Jackson, Mississippi, Memphis, Atlanta, and Chicago.
